Lutheran went 6-0 and Auburn and East each went 5-1 in the 16-team Summer League that was played at East High School over the past four weeks. That has set them up as the top seeds for next week’s end-of-season tournament.

That’s good news both for the present at the future.

It’s good for the present as they are the favorites to take the Summer League title.

As for the future, past Summer League success often foretold winter success.

Last year, Winnebago took on Auburn for the Summer League title. ‘Bago then went on to capture the Big Northern crown and reach the Class 2A state championship game before falling to Chicago Orr 76-49.

The Knights placed third in the NIC-10, one game behind co-champs Jefferson and Boylan, and went on to reach the Class 4A sectional semifinals.

The first two rounds of this summer’s tourney will be played Monday, June 25 with games at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. in the school’s fieldhouse and main gym. Action resumes Tuesday, June 26, with the championship game at 7 p.m. in the main gym.
