Hononegah’s Corey Haselton (left) accepts the Sportsfan 1330 Student/Athlete of the Week Award from Randy Ruef.

This week’s recipient of the Sportsfan 1330 Student/Athlete of the Week goes to Hononegah senior Corey Hazleton.

Corey‘s high school football career has been interrupted twice by a pair of season-ending shoulder surgeries. But despite all the rehab and therapy time, he still wanted to remain part of the team, as he attended all practices and supported his teammates throughout. This past season, his patience was rewarded, as he was able to play the full season.

And while he was showing great leadership on the sidelines, supporting his teammates while he couldn’t play, he never let it affect his success as a student.

The NIC-10 scholar/athlete is also a member of the Hononegah Student Council, the Varsity H-Club, a member of National Honor Society and has served as vice president of the LEO Club.

The Student/Athlete of the Week is geared to honor athletes who may or may not be stars on the field or court, but they are as students and community members.
