You might think it’s crazy to sit in a room for eight straight hours and work on a full seven-round mock NFL draft. And you might be right.

But that didn’t stop our Jordan Goethe and four of his NFL-expert friends.

For the seventh year in a row – and the second here on our website – the five of them each took six teams and served as general manager for each of them. The result is our Sportsfan 1330 NFL Mock Draft.

The five “GMs” and their teams are:

Jordan Goethe: Cardinals, Raiders, Jaguars, Bengals, Packers, Eagles, Patriots

Logan Houser: Ravens, Cowboys, Seahawks, Bucs, Chargers, Redskins, 49ers

Matt Heflin: Bears, Falcons, Dolphins, Chiefs, Steelers, Saints, Broncos

Jake Reisinger: Giants, Bills, Colts, Browns, Vikings, Lions, Rams

Colin Snyder: Panthers, Jets, Texans, Titans

And here is the result of their eight-hour labor, with a breakdown on the Packers and Bears selections at the end.

Green Bay Packers wrap-up (Goethe): With the No. 12 overall pick, I was prepared to select one of the Iowa’s tight end with more than likely it being Noah Fant. Luckily, TJ Hockenson was sitting there. Hockenson is the complete package. He’s a great blocker in the run game, and he finishes blocks and has that nasty edge in his game. He is a willing blocker, and his athleticism is underrated. It’s about time QB Aaron Rodgers had a safety net at tight end.

With the second 1st round pick I decided to select a playmaker in the secondary to help out Jaire Alexander and newly acquired Adrian Amos. I believe Jonathan Abram will be a nice complement; Amos can be more of the cover safety while Abram can be the guy who comes down in the box and serves as the great tackler he was known for at Mississippi State.

I snatched up South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel in the second round. He has drawn comparisons to former Packer’s receiver Randall Cobb. I’m willing to say he can be a lot better than Cobb, definitely an upgrade. Samuel dominated the Senior Bowl; he’s a great route runner who brings big-play ability on the outside along with being a threat in the return game.

In the third round, I wanted to start building more depth at certain positions like the offensive line. Ideally I would have loved to pick up Wisconsin’s Michael Deiter, but instead I opted for his teammate David Edwards, who can come in and be a quality backup until right tackle Bryan Bulaga retires. Later I selected NIU’s Sutton Smith, who would be a nice pickup on day three.  He brings experience on both the edge as well as inside linebacker, two positions the Packers could use depth at.

And to round out the draft, I went with  more depth with WR David Stills, LB Sione Takitaki, DT Terry Beckner Jr, OG Nick Linder and CB Hamp Cheevers. I love the Stills selection, and I think he can bring quality insurance in case anyone of their other young receivers from last year’s draft has a sophomore slump.

Chicago Bears wrap-up: The Bears were drafted by Matt with two goals in mind: Find a starting RB and a starting kicker.

With Chicago’s first pick, Matt was targeting three players who could step in right away and be an impact player. First up was edge rusher Chase Winovich, followed by Miles Sanders (Saquon Barkley’s backup two seasons ago) and Iowa safety Amani Hooker. In this draft scenario, RBs continued to fall into the later rounds and Matt was ecstatic when Sanders was available at pick 87. The Bears brought Sanders in for multiple visits and now Matt Nagy finally gets a guy who fits his system.

Later in the draft, Matt continued to build more depth in the trenches on both sides of the ball, first by selecting guard Alex Bars out of Notre Dame, a guy who knows the blocking scheme very well after his years in South Bend with current Bears O-Line coach Harry Hiestand.

Matt continued to build in the trenches by selecting edge rusher Carl Granderson from Wyoming, followed by WR KeeSean Johnson and kicker Austin Seibert.

Even though the Bears have three kickers under contract right now, Matt believes they can afford to spend a draft pick on a special teamer as it is a glaring need and has been since Robbie Gould left.
