Free pumpkins, face painting, apple cider and more will be given to the community this weekend!

When our family carved pumpkins when I was a kid, my dad would always scoop out the ‘pumpkin guts’ and stretch them across his fingers, make a silly face and chase us around the kitchen. My little sister and I always got scared, ran out of the room, and my dad would laugh and laugh.

I tried to do the same to my daughter now that I’m older, and it didn’t have the same affect. Instead she thought the pumpkin guts in the middle were hilarious.

She also thought putting a candle in the jack-o-lantern meant it was her pumpkin’s birthday and she had to sing her pumpkin before blowing out the candle.

The point I’m trying to get to is carving a pumpkin with your family during the Halloween season creates memories and traditions that are passed on from generation to generation. Unplug and spend the time with your loved ones creating memories.

To make it even easier this year for families, Rock Valley Credit Union is hosting a FREE Pumpkin Giveaway this Saturday, October 26th at their Loves Park office, from 10a-12p.

They are located at 1201 Clifford Ave. The family friendly event will include pumpkins (of course), popcorn, face painting and apple cider. The entire event is FREE to the community!

Stop by and grab a pumpkin to carve and start making memories with your family.
