Having lived in Rockford my entire life, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited Midway Village Museum over the years. What I can tell you is that every single time I’ve gone, I’ve always learned something new! Open year round; the museum has both permanent and rotating exhibits to learn from. The friendly staff is well versed in Rockford’s rich history and are always willing and able to answer any questions you may have about the museum as well as our beautiful city.

Midway Village is more than just a museum, it’s so much more. Just take a look at some of their offerings below:

  • The Victorian Village ~ Opened seasonally, 26 separate buildings are situated on the 148 acre museum property. Together, these buildings represent a rural community during the period of 1890 to 1910. From May through August, interpreters in period clothing lead tours exploring the life and culture of the time.
  • Summer Day Camp ~ This summer camp program allows youngsters to explore the mysteries of history while camping out in The Midway Village.
  • History Education Programs ~ There are multiple opportunities for your family, school or church group to get a unique, hands on experience, while learning about the history of Rockford and the Northern Illinois Region.
  • The Heritage Gardens ~ Watch these 9 beautiful Victorian gardens grow! Private garden tours are available and teach you about 19th Century garden design and the legacy of heirloom planting.
  • Museum Gift Store ~ Find unique gifts for everyone on your shopping list at the museum store! Sock Monkeys, Rockford Peaches Memorabilia and lots of other uniquely Rockford themed items are available at the store during regular museum hours. You can also purchase items from their online store by clicking here.
  • Rockford History Walking Tours ~ (Downtown Rockford) – Sign up today to take a walking history tour in beautiful downtown Rockford! The self-guided tour starts at any of the 19 tour stops listed on the downloadable map. For more information, call the museum or visit the website rockfordhistorywalks.org.
  • Children’s Story Time ~ Midway Village Museum and the Rockford Public Library staff are partnering for children’s story time. Check the museum website for info.

Remember, the museum is open year round! Winter activities include: Girl Scouts Day, Boy Scouts Day and of course, Sock Monkey Madness! Experience The Great War: World War I this Spring. In Summer the Oregon Trail in Real Life and Tipsy History. Fall is always fun with their Haunted History Walk and of course bring the kids for their favorite event All Hallow’s Eve! The village is decorated with a spooky theme and local businesses hand out candy to children in a fun and safe environment.
