Many of us are finding we have more time on our hands these days and are spending most of our time at home, so why not foster a pet until they find their FURever home?

Amy Mazzarese, a Senior Media and Marketing Consultant at Mid-West Family, is a dog mom of two: 5 yr old Leo and 1 yr old Wilson, who are both rescues. Two days before the Shelter in Place, Mazzarese and her fiance took in 2 adorable pitbull puppies from C.A.R.E for P.E.T.S, who were from a litter of 5.  The mission of C.A.R.E for P.E.T.S is to keep pets in their Winnebago County homes by providing assistance to owners who are facing financial hardship. They also help place animals in foster care and find adoptive homes.

When asked why she decided to foster a pet, Amy said,”We chose to foster because there were so many pets that needed to get out of shelters because of low staffing, and people were dumping pets because they were worried they might have coronavirus. Plus, we had more time on our hands to help out.” Amy added, “We named the boys Rocky and Tyson because we thought they had a “boxer breed” face. They were so small but full of personality! Tyson weighed 3lbs and his brother Rocky weighed 4lbs when we picked them up.”

Yesterday, Tyson and Rocky went on a special “meet and greet” to meet their new FURever families. Speaking of her experience, Amy said, “I am so glad we fostered them and gave them a chance at a very happy life. We are keeping in touch with their adopters for updates as they will always be a part of our family too.” Amy added, “C.A.R.E for P.E.T.S screens their applicants for adoption very carefully. If you are interested in fostering or adopting, please visit their website. You could end up saving a life, or even better, having a friend for life.”
