The Illinois Small Business Development Centers at Rockford Chamber, also known as the Rockford SBDC, is hosting 3D EDM printing certification classes starting with a basics class on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon and an intermediate class on Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at NIU Rockford, 8500 E. State St., Rockford.

Classes will alternate between NIU Rockford and Rockford Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce training center, located at 4249 E. State St., Rockford.

Classes are free. Registrations are required.

Attendees must complete the basics class in order to move on to the Intermediate class.

About 3D EDM Printing Certification Classes:

These two classes are the first of a series of three that teaches participants the fundamentals of 3D printing using FDM printers.

After participating in this classes attendees should be able to:

  • Know key safety points to safely use a 3D FDM printer

  • Understand the basic 3D FDM printer anatomy

  • Understand basic 3D printing workflow

  • Understand the different types of materials we can use to make things

  • Know how to setup and use a basic 3D FDM printer

The training in these classes uses both presentation and hands-on participation. Only six participants per session.

Participants will be required to wear a mask and follow the most current physical distancing NIU policy.
