Television ratings have been up for the NASCAR Cup Series, and the sport has delivered.

What’s been working?

The competition is better.  For the first time since the Camaro made its debut, Chevrolet appears to be on a level playing field.  One of NASCAR’s oldest manufacturers seems to have finally caught up to Ford and Toyota.

Restarts.  One of the bright spots of the 2019 season may be here to stay.  Las Vegas saw three- and four-wide racing each time the green flag waved.

Difficulty in Traffic.  These are some of the best drivers in the world, and they are struggling to make clean passes.  Ryan Newman’s wreck aside, it’s been highly entertaining for this viewer to see how the damage has affected teams in contention.

We’ll see how NASCAR can build upon its early successes in 2020.  At least in February, we can enjoy talking about an otherwise uneventful Pennzoil 400 that exceeded our expectations.
