The inaugural Chicagoland Summer Showcase high school boys basketball tournament tips off this weekend with plenty to top teams from around the country as well as some of the highest-rated recruits. The Midwest Wildcats basketball program, which is the largest AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball program in Northern Illinois and also based out of Rockford, has been selected by Under Armour to play on their Girls UAA High School Rise Circuit and Boys/Girls UAA Futures Circuit. Chuck Lynde, who has been involved in the Wildcats program since its inception 17 years ago, talks about the added perks this offers, including giving local young boys and girls the opportunities to travel to bigger tournaments, face tougher competition and get more exposure.
The Rockford University men's basketball team has won seven of its last 10 games and sits 10-6 in the Northeastern Athletics Collegiate Conference. They are shooting for their first winning season in the NACC since 2011.

Olivia Fluehr had a stellar career for the Harlem Huskies and won some national titles with Rock Valley College. From there, the softball pitching star played at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and just finished her college career at Graceland University. Now she is the latest professional athlete from the area, as she was drafted by the E1 Pro Ballers of the American Softball Association.
