It sounds like rumors flying around that Chicagoland Speedway was being torn down are not true. The rumors started right after NASCAR announced that this years race would be moved to North Carolina because of Covid-19. A leaked image showing the outline of building through turns three and four didn’t help either. However, today Joliet’s interim city manage, Steve Jones, tried to clear everything up. He explained it was a misunderstanding and while over 83 acres of overflow parking space is being sold for development, it’s not going to affect the track itself.
The Joliet Plan Commission has a meeting about the sale set for July, 16th. For now, it looks like NASCAR will still be making it’s yearly stop, once it’s safe to do so.
