Lost in a weekend of College and NFL football were two MLB playoff game 7’s. On
Saturday it was game 7 of the ALCS where the upstart Tampa Bay Rays were
looking to try and close out the Houston Astros for the 4 th straight game. The Rays
had built a 3-0 series lead but the heavily favored Astros has stormed back
winning 3 in a row of their own to force the game 7. Rays starter Charlie Morton
would give up just 2 hits in 5 and 2/3 rd innings of work and the Rays would hold
onto for a 4-2 victory. Morton has yet to give up a single run in the postseason.
On Sunday the LA Dodgers looked to comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against
the Atlanta Braves to punch their ticket to the World Series. The Dodgers were
down 2-0 and 3-1 at different points in the game but as they have done all season
long the Dodgers used the long ball to get back into the game and ultimately win
it. A Cody Bellinger homer in the bottom of the 7 th inning propelled the Dodgers to
a 4-3 win and the World Series
This sets up a very interesting World Series matchup in that you have the Tampa
Bay Rays who have a very small budget and payroll taking on the LA Dodgers who
have tried for years to buy themselves a world series. The contrast between the
two teams could not be starker, a major market star studded team verse a team
that most people could only name one or two members of. The unfortunate part
of all of this for MLB is that this World Series will be taking part right in the heart
of football season which as we know has become America’s real pastime. There is
a great narrative to be told with this World Series, question is will anybody be
there to hear it?
