If you are a current or former smoker, you are categorized in one of the groups that are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Being a current or former cigarette smoker increases your risk of severe illness from COVID-19, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Illinois has moved into Phase 1B and has expanded the vaccine eligibility to people who have serious medical conditions and are also over the age of 16.
