POPLAR GROVE — The Rockford IceHogs Community Fund has awarded $10,000 to the Oscar Mike Foundation as part of this year’s total of $127,000 in giving.

The money will be used to fully fund four disabled veterans to participate in an Oscar Mike Illinois Adaptive Clinic. That includes travel expenses such as lodging and meals, and paying for all equipment and activity costs.

“Our nonprofit is built on the generosity of grants and donations, and none speak louder than those from organizations in our own community,” Noah Currier, founder of Oscar Mike, said in a news release. “It really drives home the message that the IceHogs truly care about our mission and want to make a real difference.”

The Oscar Mike Foundation was created in 2011 by injured veterans to provide adaptive activities for veterans with physical or mental disabilities resulting from mobility challenges. The nonprofit works to give injured veterans an opportunity to stay active.

“It’s truly an honor to show our support to injured veterans who have given so much for our country, and to be able to do it by partnering with an organization as unique and inspirational as Oscar Mike,” said Dave Costello, manager of marketing and community relations for the IceHogs. “It’s been amazing to watch the Oscar Mike Foundation grow over the years and to see the impact it has had on so many veterans.”

Some of the other organizations supported through the IceHogs grants have been Rock House Kids, Think Big, The Greg Lindmark Foundation and the VanVleet Family Foundation for 67 kids to attend Fred VanVleet’s Summer Camp.
