Cemetery Walk

September 14, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The newly formed Roscoe Township Historical Society will host a guided tour of eight gravesites at the Roscoe Cemetery. The first walk will begin at 1pm, and a second walk will begin at 3pm. Each walk will last approximately 1.5 hours. While the terrain is flat, there are undulations in the turf. Guests are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for walking a quarter mile total on uneven grass.

This year’s walk will feature the stories and sacrifices of those who settled Roscoe between 1835 and 1842 – the founding families of Cross, Lovesee, Richardson, Jenks, Ransom, McAffee, Thompson, Ilsley, Tuttle and Leland. At each stop, modern day story tellers will personify early settlers, revealing their interconnectedness, exposing their rugged lives, and sharing stories of prosperity, failure and tragedy as they built their lives on the prairie of northern Illinois.

No admission is required but free-will donations will be gratefully accepted and appreciated. You can contact the Society at roscoetownshiphistory@gmail.com.

Watch for the Historical Society during this year’s Roscoe Fall Festival, Sept 6-8. They will take part in the parade and have an exhibition in the Display Tent, where they will reveal renderings and share plans for the renovation of the Robert J. Cross homestead at 4562 Hononegah Road.

The Roscoe Township Historical Society is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is the study, preservation and dissemination of Roscoe Township history.
