CELEBRATE DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS AT NICHOLAS CONSERVATORY NOVEMBER 4, 2023 — Rockford Park District’s Nicholas Conservatory invites the community to a celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in the tropical Conservatory. This year’s event, part of the Nicholas at Night series of family friendly events, will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Due to limited capacity, advance registration for this event is encouraged through the events calendar link at https://nicholasconservatory.com/activities.
The holiday originated in Mexico several thousand years ago to demonstrate remembrance, love, and respect for deceased family members and loved ones in colorful and festive ways, and is rich in symbolism. Guests will experience the holiday through music, dancing, art, stories, and more. The Conservatory will be decked out for the occasion with alebrijes, papel picado, and its large La Catrina, the holiday’s most recognizable image. There will also be a variety of Día de los Muertos-themed fair trade items available for purchase in the Garden Gate Gift Store.
All event activities are included with event fees, which vary by age and NCG membership status, and are posted at https://nicholasconservatory.com/activities.
New this year, an adults-only Día de los Muertos event, Noche de las Calaveras, will be held the evening prior, November 3, 2023. A link to event information and registration is on the facility events calendar at https://nicholasconservatory.com/activities.
