This will be the only River District Walking tour this summer. It will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024,  at 5:30 pm. The tour starts at the New Main Rockford Public Library at 215 N. Wyman Street.

The 10-block, 90 minute, walking tour will be about downtown history, new developments underway, and what started downtown’s Renaissance.

The library’s history and the process of designing the new library will be reviewed. Sites to be visited include Memorial Hall, the original Waterworks, Historic Beattie Park, Coronado Theater, 304 N. Main, 424 W. Jefferson, Hart Building, and buildings under renovation,  Lafayette  Hotel, Nu State Building, and State and Main. The tour will finish with the  Richardson  Building and the Morrissey Building.
