Join in the kick-off to the Penny Marshall Celebration with a showing of A League of Their Own, the movie that put the Rockford Peaches on the map.
The story line we all remember: While athletic young men went off to serve in World War II, a professional all-female baseball league sprang up in the Midwest funded by publicity-hungry candy maker Walter Harvey. Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) and their grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) on their way to fame as Rockford Peaches. Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell co-star as two of the sisters’ teammates.
Admission is $5 for the movie in the Barrel Room with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Prairie Street servers will take food and drink orders in the Barrel Room starting at 7:30 p.m. through the end of the movie. Limited seating for the movie.
The Vendor Market in the Malt Room starting at 6:00 p.m. is free and open to the public. Vendors will sell a wide range of Peaches and nostalgia items, t-shirts, Peaches 75th tins, pennants, posters. SPoRT Makeup will feature their Rockford Peaches makeup honoring the Midwest teams in the AAGPBL. Original Rockford Peaches bat girls will be available for autographs.
